Good evening! I hope you have had a great Monday! It’s always hard to drag yourself out of bed and slap on an “I’m excited for a new week” attitude. But if you do in fact wake up and think positively, your day will be so much better than if you wake up and dread the day. It’s just how I think of it.

So Thanksgiving week is upon us. I am excited to spend time with family this week but let’s get down to it, I’m going to be traveling starting tomorrow afternoon until Sunday. That means no routine and no planned meals. But in order to not sabotage all the work I’ve been putting in at the gym and all the healthy meals I have been making, I’m sharing with you my secrets to staying fit and healthy during the holidays.

As always, I like to focus on Fitness, Flavor & Finds.

Fitness

I’m going back in the Fitness archives to share with you my favorite cardio workouts that will blast fat and you only need your body-weight. When I’m visiting with Darin’s family or even my own, I go into our room, close the door, turn on my Iphone music and get moving! I will be also sticking to my Best Body Bootcamp workouts and this is the time of year when you are so thankful for already planned workouts! I took a few minutes today and wrote all of the wonderful (jokes) workouts out and planned out my week accordingly. Don’t let your fitness and health wander to the side for a week, plan ahead! Thanks to Tina Reale for all the time she put into making these workouts great!

:1: Start the day with a walk or run! No matter where you are, there’s most likely a place for you to exercise outdoors at. Darin’s family lives on a farm and I’ll be starting my mornings with a run around their land.

:2: Pack fitness gear with you for your trip or bring workout DVDs! Here’s what I’m taking for the week- Body Gear:: UnderArmour Black Running Capris, Nike T-Shirt, Black Long Sleeve UnderArmour Zip-up, Nike Flex Trainers, Socks & Head Band.

Workout Gear::Yoga Mat, 8lb Weights, Jillian Michaels Yoga DVD, Bob Harper Cardio DVD, Water Bottle & Earphones

:3: Last but not least, work it out! Here are (5) different workouts for you that are great on the go. They are all under 25 minutes and will get your heart rate up and leave you sweaty! Click on the link for the full workout and links to instructions. **Some have dumbbells but you can use your body weight or use food cans.

:1: Pack healthy snacks for your trip or have healthy snacks around your house, ready to eat as family and friends come by to visit. For this trip I’m bringing the following: Chobani Greek Yogurt, Simple Protein Bars, Apples & Cinnamon Oatmeal, Apples, Grapefruit, Protein Powder & Cinnamon Tea. Also, start every morning with (2) big glasses of water to hydrate yourself and keep a water bottle with you to stay hydrated throughout the festivities to avoid over eating because you think your hungry. You are most likely thirsty!

:2: Always bring something healthy to a party. If you show up hoping to find something healthy you can dig into, good luck. Most people will be shoveling stuffing and pecan pie in their face and will not be wondering where all the vegetables are. But if you bring in a lovely side dish of roasted potatoes, carrots and brussel sprouts with a delicious glaze, you will feel like you at least tried instead of acting like that green bean casserole is “lean and green”.

:3: I know that I’m going to indulge so go ahead and be honest with yourself. Enjoy the food at the festivities but don’t overindulge. I’m making a Pumpkin Cheesecake (recipe to come) but I also will be making this Fall Salad in a bigger version.
